The .wsxz filename extension denotes the SDL WorldServer Project Package (.wsxz) file type associated with exporting SDL WorldServer translation projects to SDL Studio/SDL Trados Studio. Initially developed by Idiom Technologies, Inc. and later acquired by SDL, SDL WorldServer is a computer-aided translation (CAT) system primarily focused on collaborative translation of web-based content and applications, while SDL Trados Studio is SDL's premium desktop CAT tool.
To export SDL WorldServer projects to SDL Trados Studio, a special interchange format (.wsxz) is used. The .wsxz file is a WorldServer exported translation kit generated in SDL WorldServer by using the "Export Tasks for Offline Work" menu command, with SDL Studio 2009 selected as the target application. The .wsxz file is nothing more than a regular ZIP archive that serves as a wrapper for the source and target XLIFF files, translation memory (if any), and other project's assets. Such files can be imported in SDL Trados Studio, translated, and saved back as SDL WorldServer return packages (using the same .wsxz package format). In SDL Trados Studio, the .wsxz package format is supported since version 2009 SP2.
