With the user base of slightly above 75% worldwide, Google Chrome is by far the most popular web browser in the world. Developed by Google Inc. on the basis of the open-source Chromium project since long supported by the company, Google Chrome is available free of charge for all major platforms and systems. In addition to the traditional desktop application, mobile versions of Google Chrome exist for iOS- and Android-based devices.

Google Chrome allows its users to use a single Google account to automatically sign in to associated web services and sites, and provide a means of secure credential storage. When browsing using Google Chrome while signed in, the browsing history, bookmarks, and search queries are synchronized among all devices using the same Google account. Naturally, one does not have to be signed in to use Google Chrome for visiting web sites or watching videos online (for which the browser automatically utilizes any hardware acceleration available). For private browsing, one can use anonymous tabs.

Thanks to the V8 JavaScript engine, the browser's performance in rendering complex web pages with lots of JavaScript code is exceptional. Besides its tight integration with the Google search engine enabling the live search feature directly from the address line, Google Chrome is the main target browser for the vast majority of web developers, which effectively makes sure all modern sites are guaranteed to display correctly in it.

When installed on a Microsoft Windows machine, Google Chrome resides in the %SystemDrive%\Program Files\Google\Chrome folder, while its per-user application data such as browsing history or bookmarks are stored at %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data. During the installation process, Google Chrome suggests to make it the default browser, with the corresponding option turned on by default.
