In connection with Football Manager (FM)—a popular series of football management simulation PC/Mac games by Sports Interactive (since 2004)—the .lnc extension is used in FM internal settings files (LNC).
Such LNC files are used to generally modify behavior of the game, allowing to change the names of teams, clubs, stadiums, affect random team generation, turn on/off various options etc. An .lnc file is a plaintext file that contains a number of statements, re-defining internal game variables, and is editable with any text editor.
LNC files are often used to add the names of real-life players, sports journalists, arbiters etc. to the game, as well as tweak the names of clubs, stadiums and championships in local languages.
LNC files usually come with extensive comments and are similar by their function to the DBC and EDT text file types, also used to change settings in FM. Any changes made to respective .lnc files will affect both new and existing games in FM.
