The verbose .sldprt filename extension denotes the SolidWorks Part File (.sldprt) file type and format. It is a proprietary binary format used in SolidWorks, a commercial CAD system from Dassault Systemes, for standalone assembly parts or objects.
The .sldprt file represents a SolidWorks assembly part. It comes with textures, materials, NURBS, and other attributes of a full-featured 3D model. Part files can be worked with individually or combined in larger assembly projects (.sldasm).
From within SolidWorks, SLDPRT models can be exported to other CAD formats such as STL, to be used for 3D printing or further imported in other CAD and 3D modeling tools. Due to the differing sets of features offered by each CAD format, conversion of .sldprt part files into specific formats can be tricky or limited. Major CAD systems like Autodesk's AutoCAD support direct import of .sldprt files.
SLDPRT files can be opened for viewing (no editing) with the free SolidWorks Viewer, eDrawings Viewer, and several other tools. There are also third-party commercial tools offering editing capabilities for .sldprt and other SolidWorks files.
