The .r94 extension is an instance of the Multi-Volume RAR/WinRAR Compressed Archive Part (.r00 – .r99) file type. RAR is a proprietary freeware cross-platform command-line tool for handling the RAR archive format, both by E.Roshal. On Microsoft Windows, an extended GUI version of RAR is known as WinRAR (shareware).
Both RAR and WinRAR are capable of creating multi-volume, or split archives. A split archive consists of multiple parts of the same size. Split archives were invented to facilitate handling large archives when transferred over non-reliable networks like dial-up connections.
Each part of a multi-volume RAR archive is assigned an individual extension, following the ".r[00-99]" pattern, so an .r94 file is the ninety-sixth part of a large split RAR archive, as the first part always comes with the .rar extension. By default, however, multi-volume RAR archive parts are assigned dual extensions like ".part0.rar" (the newer naming model).
Files like .r94 can be properly handled by any archive manager that supports the RAR format. Successful extraction of the entire archive's data requires presence of all the preceding parts in the same directory.
