R60 File Extension

Have a problem opening a .R60 file? We collect information about file formats and can explain what R60 files are. Additionally we recommend software suitable for opening or converting such files.

What is the .R60 file type?

Indexed filename extensions like .r60 (.r00.r99) are used in the 'older' naming scheme for multi-part RAR/WinRAR archives. RAR refers to both the name of a popular proprietary data compression algorithm developed by E.Roshal and its reference command-line implementation, while WinRAR is a versatile RAR-based GUI archive manager for Microsoft Windows.

The .r60 file is the sixty-second part of an 'old-style' multi-part RAR/WinRAR archive (the first part always receives the standard .rar or .exe extension, with the first indexed extension being .r00). Files like .r60 are RAR/WinRAR archives by themselves and can be directly opened by any compatible archive manager. The key difference of such files (.r60, etc.) from regular, single-file RAR/WinRAR archives is that each of such volumes contains only a certain portion of the entire archive's data and is generally useless without the other volumes.

According to the 'newer' archive volume naming convention used now by default by all RAR-compatible archivers, all RAR/WinRAR archive volumes bear the standard .rar extension preceded by an indexed string (e.g., ".part60.rar").
