The .qsed filename extension represents the QVOD Player Shortcut (.qsed) file type, with reference to QVOD Player, a free advertisement-driven (adware) multimedia player by Shenzhen Qvod Technology Co., Ltd. Originally standing for 'Quick Video On Demand,' the QVOD acronym has become strongly associated with Asian (mainly, Chinese) hubs serving multimedia content, often pirated.
QVOD Player, largely the most popular Chinese multimedia player, uses .qsed files as part of its own P2P (peer-to-peer) BitTorrent-based protocol. A .qsed file is a shortcut to a streamed or file-based multimedia resource accessible through the QVOD protocol (qvod://). It is a short text file that uses a loose XML based syntax to provide a specially formatted hashed URL, somewhat similar to a regular BitTorrent magnet link.
Once opened with QVOD Player, a .qsed file provides the player with the hash and the filename of a target resource, initiating a P2P session to connect to any available seeding hosts and start streaming or downloading. Collections of .qsed shortcuts in the form of compressed archives are abundant on the Asian Internet.
