An abbreviation of Nemetschek DraWing (NDW), the .ndw filename extension denotes the file type Nemetschek Allplan Project (.ndw) associated with Allplan, a commercial computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) solution by Allplan GmbH. Several successive versions of Allplan exist, which are designated by the year number of their release. All Allplan versions use the same .ndw file type for their project files, although the underlying file format is slightly different in each version of the software.
An .ndw file is a CAD/BIM project created and saved in Allplan. Using a proprietary binary file format, it contains the data that defines a dimensional model of an architectural structure or building, complete with all of its measurements, constraints and interconnections. Using the Save Copy As... dialog in Allplan, any currently opened NDW document can be re-saved in an earlier version's format for data exchange purposes. Conversely, any .ndw file regardless of its target version (up to and including the one currently used) can be imported into the current drawing using the Import NDW files feature.
