An .mtc file is a Make The Cut! document. It is a layered vector graphics project prepared and saved with Make The Cut! in the native MTC format. Within an .mtc project, complex graphics is broken down into several layers, each holding a single simple shape, suitable for cutting.

One can import vector and bitmap graphics into an .mtc project as well as export the project into the standard SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) format (.svg). Since MTC is a proprietary file format, .mtc files can be opened in Make The Cut! only.

Using BrainVoyager QX built-in functionality, mesh time course files (.mtc) can be linked to the currently active mesh file (.srf). MTC files are often used together with 'Patch Of Interest' (POI) files.

Besides, the .mtc extension denotes the Mars Test Case (.mtc) file type occurring with reference to the Mars Test Framework (MTF), part of the experimental Mars computer programming language. An .mtc file is a text file with a YAML test case description for testing compilation and runtime integrity of Mars code.
