Most frequently, the .kdc extension occurs in relation to Kaspersky anti-virus and data security software, being associated with the Kaspersky Virus Signature Definition File (.kdc) file type and format.
A .kdc file is a small (several hundred kilobytes) binary file (e.g., "base012.kdc") that contains virus, trojan, and malware signatures provided by the Kaspersky Lab. Located in the "Bases" subdirectory of the application data folder (depending on OS), KDC signature files are updated and managed by the Kaspersky software automatically. Due to a large number of .kdc files that have to be processed during a scan or update, the latest versions of Kaspersky Endpoint Security package individual .kdc files into several larger archives.
Previous versions of Kaspersky security products used the .avc extension for their signature definition files.
Alternatively, the .kdc extension can also stand for the Kodak KDC Bitmap Image (.kdc) file type and format. A pioneer of digital photography, Eastman Kodak Company used to market several digital still-image cameras in 1990's that stored their images in Kodak's proprietary bitmap image format (KDC). Those included Kodak DC40, DC50, DC120, and several other old models.
A .kdc file is a bitmap image of a photograph taken with an older Kodak digital camera, saved in the KDC format. Kodak still provides the KODAK Picture Transfer Application that can be used to transfer photos from an older Kodak camera to a PC and convert them to standard bitmap formats (JPEG, TIFF, etc.).
Besides, KDC images can be opened, viewed, and converted by several all-purpose image viewers and bitmap graphics editors.
