The DO file extension is commonly used for web-based Java applications (servlets) mapped to the Struts controller and used to generate dynamic contents for websites on the Internet. DO files have the same principle of work as PHP files, but they are designed for the Java software platform developed by Sun Microsystems, Inc.
DO files are usually based on the HTML or XML scripting languages. Their lifecycle consists of three basic stages: a loading and initialization process that is done using the init() method, then processing of service calls from clients using the service() method, and finally termination of work by calling the destroy() method.
Files with the .do extension can be executed by a web server providing support for the JavaServer Pages (JSP) technology, and results of the work can be viewed in any common Internet browser such as Google Chrome, Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. DO files themselves are usually hidden from users, but there are some Java servlets available as standalone applications.
