The .c2d filename extension represents the Roxio Disk Image (.c2d) file type associated with Roxio's proprietary disk image format. C2D was developed and first used as the native disk image format of WinOnCD, a legacy Microsoft Windows CD/DVD burning application replaced by Roxio Easy Media Creator (EMC). Unlike ISO, the .c2d format features data compression and is suitable for making images of Audio CD, Video CD, and other non-data disks.
The .c2d file contains a complete CD/DVD disk image made in WinOnCD or Roxio EMC and saved in Roxio's own format. C2D images are intended to be used with Roxio's software only. For compatibility, .c2d images can be opened in Roxio EMC and re-saved as .iso, however, not all .c2d images can be converted into the ISO format due to its limitations.
Besides Roxio EMC and the old WinOnCD, there are several third-party disk-imaging and virtual-drive utilities that provide support for the C2D format and allow to read/burn/mount such images (.c2d). Additionally, dedicated converters can be used to convert .c2d images to other formats such as CUE/BIN.
