The .8bi file is an Adobe Photoshop file-format plugin. Internally, it is a Microsoft Windows DLL (Dynamically Linked Library) executable, usable only with the Microsoft Windows version of Adobe Photoshop, as the Mac OS X version uses a completely different format. When loaded, such a plugin adds support for a certain file format to Adobe Photoshop and related software.
File format plug-ins (.8bi) are installed in the "Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop ...\Plug-Ins" directory by default, while Camera RAW plugins and those shared with Bridge and Photoshop Elements go to "Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\...\File Formats." Plugins whose filenames start with the "~" (tilde) character are ignored by Adobe Photoshop and not loaded.
